Bryant Purchased Winning Putter off the Shelf at Dick’s Sporting Goods

He made numerous huge putts including the clincher on 18

Bart Bryant couldn’t figure it out.

Through nine events to start the year, he had just one top 10 finish.

Things weren’t improving in late June at the American Family Insurance Championship. After rounds of 71 and 73 to open the tournament, he went out to dinner with his caddie, Greg Poston.

“I putted poor the first two rounds and we were just pontificating and he said ‘we got to do something’ and I said ‘let’s get a new putter’ so we go over to DICK’S (Sporting Goods) and I bought a new putter,” explained Bryant. “I started playing much better after that, got some rhythm with the putter and got some momentum going.

He shot a final round 66 with the new Odyssey putter.

The momentum carried over the next week when he finished in a tie for sixth and everything came together at the – coincidentally – DICK’S Sporting Goods Open when he turned in rounds of 68-67-65 to pick up his first win since 2013

“The putter is what put me over the top this week. I probably made four or five putts of 20 feet or more, which is really big. It’s pretty cool that I won this tournament with a putter I bought right off the shelf at DICK’S.”

Not surprisingly, it was a 30-foot putt on the 54th and final hole that put an exclamation point on the win.

It’s amazing what a little spontaneity can lead to.
